ABOUT THE PROJECT

Today not Tomorrow- Feat

Today Not Tomorrow

One of the project’s key elements is a television program, Today Not Tomorrow, which tells the stories of those who face challenges when seeking their freedom of religion or belief. It highlights examples of inspiring women in different contexts, presenting alternative visions of hope, to raise awareness and encourage changes in attitudes and behaviour.

The project identified women who were prepared to share their experiences on the program. Among them was Youstina, who was initially invited as a guest but became one of the presenters. “Despite her restrictive community, she has stood up to oppressive traditions,” says Project Lead Maggie Morgan. “She is awesome!” You can read more about Youstina’s incredible story here.

Other project activities include social media campaigns highlighting specific issues. One of the most successful addressed men and the cultural challenges they face. A series of short videos titled Men Have Rights Too attracted over 12 million views. “To have a more equal society, and dignity for all, you have to talk to women and men, young and old,” explains Maggie. “When it comes to FoRB, religious texts can be used to oppress women, but they can also be used to put more pressure on men.”

The project provides off-screen support in the form of workshop-style support groups and one-to-one counselling. Maggie said that it was “beyond our expectation” how many women were engaging with the issues and connecting with others for mutual support.
